World’s top fashion designers are creating a series of dolls to help raise funds for UNICEF’s vaccination program for the children of Darfur. The program gives money to centers that are dedicated to vaccinating children under five years old against the six most deadly childhood diseases.
The participating designers include BCBG Max Azria, Carolina Herrera, Chanel, Christian Dior, Chistian Lacroix, Dolce and Gabbana, Dries van Noten, Emanuel Ungaro, Emilio Pucci, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Jean-paul Gaultier, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, Moschino, Nina Ricci, Oscar de la Renta, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo, Sonia Rykiel, Stella McCartney, Versacr and Yves Saint Laurent among others.
These one-of-a-kind Raggedy Anne type dolls will be featured in an exhibition called “sweet face” at the Petit Palais in Paris which will run from November 18th to the 23rd, 2008- organized by UNICEF France. The designer dolls will then be sold at auction, either on the internet, or on November 27th at Drouot Montaigne- Paris’s prestigious auction house. All proceeds from the sale will go to UNICEF.
The event known as Frimousses de Createurs began in 2003 and has since helped vaccinate over 31000 children in the war-torn region of Darfur through the funds raised.
The fashion industry is often criticized for its superfluousness and accused of being ignorant towards to the underprivileged of the world, because it caters exclusively to the elite. It is heartwarming to see these luxury labels using fashion for a good cause and proving that fashion does in fact care. Here’s to changing the world through fashion, one stylish step at a time!

First George Clooney and now these fashion moguls are doing their best to bring the world’s attention to the horrific situation in Darfur. It’s great to see these prominent artists becoming growingly conscious and reaching out to the underprivileged. After all the artists are supposed to be the “soul of the world”. This trend is obviously a positive step towards attaining the ideal world we all dream of.
By the way, how much were these Raggedy Anne type dolls sold for?

It really is a big step towards changing the world. Its something close to my heart because that’s the kind of world i dream of where fashion isn’t just synonymous with materialism, where the people who are in a position to help and make a difference do care. Here’s hoping we all follow in their path.

The dolls are being auctioned off on the 27th of this month either online or at a auction house in Paris, so I don’t know their prices yet.
